It's Not Funny: 20th - 24th May 2003 at the Trestle Arts Base theatre
Sex, booze, violence, cash, drugs, mental breakdowns, sibling rivalry . and
a sock with attitude
Patrick is a reasonably successful lawyer in his mid-twenties. He has a
comfortable life, a comfortable home, a comfortable job and Isabel, a
comfortable wife. He also happens to be deeply depressed.
Camilla is a homeless person with a warm word and a smile for every stranger
she meets. She also happens to be barking mad and a pathological liar.
After a chance meeting between the two of them, a series of seemingly
coincidental events occur that knock Patrick's life into a nosedive.
Damian, Isabel's brother - an artist and self-proclaimed anarchist - arrives
on the scene, apparently with the sole purpose of annoying Patrick. When
Camilla turns up yet again, he is provided with ample ammunition with which
to do this.
As Patrick's life begins to unravel around him at an alarming pace, he
begins to miss all that he once took for granted. Turning to his vicious
older sister Joanna, he tries to regain what he has lost. Unfortunately it
appears that the changes could be irrevocable and Joanna is far from the
best person to help him.
Isabel turns to Suzi, her best friend (who has never really matured beyond
the age of 18) and, in an attempt to regain some of the fun of Isabel's
youth, the two of them go on the rampage.
'It's Not Funny' charts the rises, falls, and resurrections of six very
different people following the collision of the lives of Patrick and Camilla
. at a bus-stop.
