NODA REVIEW
Peter Hawes is to be complimented for an excellently written, extremely funny play [with] enough twists and turns to keep the mind working, as well as causing my laughter to border on hysteria at one stage! The play was about Stuart and whether he could be in love with two people at the same time, although everyone ended up with a partner eventually! The set was great, well thought out and dressed - three settings on a revolve, which meant there were no unwieldy scene changes, the stage just revolved effortlessly, such a pleasure to watch. The action was slick and polished, with hardly a falter. I was very impressed, and hope we see more of this writer’s work and also
of the company. I have never been to Trestle Arts Base before, but it appeared to be an excellent venue. A thoroughly enjoyable evening,
with very well-drawn characters, and a good ‘company’ feel to the piece.

Electric Candlelight - a farce with heart.
Is it possible to be in love with two people at the same time?
You know, real love. The big stuff. Not some meaningless, heat of the moment fling. Not that listless state of comfort with all the romance and sentiment of an old cardigan. I’m talking about the heart-stopping, breath-taking, cliché-laden feeling that stops time and makes you forget your own name.
This is Stuart’s problem.
Stuart’s life is pretty good. He has a good career, good friends and a good girlfriend - Kelly. Until he meets Sascha, and begins to question whether ‘good’ is good enough.
With his main sources of advice being Perry, who can only remember a woman’s name if it is printed on her chest, and Dave, who thinks it is bad luck to sleep with the same woman more than once, the odds are stacked against him.
So fuelled by a ton of bad advice and some evil cocktails, what started out as a simple love triangle soon turns into a complicated farce of love, violence and some very, very silly bedroom shenanigans.
‘Electric Candlelight’ is the third play written Pete Hawes to be performed by Act 2 Productions. It follows an enormously successful run of ‘Turn to Face the Change’, written by Pete Hawes and performed by Act 2, at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
